Motorola RAZR revival unveiled

The original Motorola RAZR handset was something of a coup for the manufacturer because it balanced excellent functionality with must-have pop culture relevance. Now a modern follow-up its hitting the market, retaining the RAZR nametag but integrating some contemporary capabilities to keep things fresh.

A number of publicity shots have been published in the run up to the smartphone`s official launch, indicating that it will be very slender and stylish, just list its predecessors. A large touch screen display dominates the front of the device, while on the rear you will find what appears to be an eight megapixel camera capable of recording full HD 1080p video clips.

Customers in the US will be able to invest in a 4G-ready edition of the new Motorola RAZR, also called the Droid RAZR or Motorola Spyder depending on who you ask. International users will have to make do with a 3G edition, although everyone can enjoy Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS for navigationg.

The new RAZR handset will undoubtedly feature a dual core processor as this is the requirement for any smartphone that can record full HD video. It will also run Android Ice Cream Sandwich, Google`s latest and greatest mobile operating system which will blend elements of Android 3.0`s tablet-friendly functionality with a button-free user interface.

It looks like Motorola has decided to retain the traditional quartet of Android buttons on the front of the RAZR even though Google`s platform will no longer require them as standard. This is not really an issue, but given that the phone will launch on the same day as the flagship Google Nexus Prime it might seem slightly off track in this minor detail.

For the time being all of this information about the Motorola RAZR reboot remains speculative as the manufacturer is on the verge of divulging official details at a press event.

Last year the Google Nexus S was the vanilla Android rival to Motorola`s Milestone family of smartphones and in 2011 it looks like the Nexus Prime will be the main rival to the RAZR. Thankfully these two phones could be aimed at slightly different segments of the market, given that the Nexus Prime is tipped to sport a very large 4.65 inch touchscreen display while the RAZR should come in a little below this class-topping screen. The slim, sleek looks of the RAZR should make it more of a fashion statement than its immediate alternatives and this could help Motorola find a niche in a competitive part of the mobile world.
